Membership
Read the market every week, from the floor.
Steve walks the stores, then writes what he saw. Pricing moves, range changes, what a retailer is really doing versus what it says it is doing. Published on Substack, free and paid.
What members get
Free
Short notes two or three times a week. The observations as they happen, straight from the shop floor.
Paid
Everything free, plus the weekly long-form deep dive: the week read properly, with the context that makes it useful on a Monday morning.
Keyholder
The founding tier. Everything paid, plus quarterly deep dives into retailer performance and video analysis four times a year.
Current pricing for each tier is on the Substack subscribe page. Cancel any time.
Sixteen years of it, already written
Membership is the current work. The back catalogue is free to read: 206 blog posts going back to 2009 and 271 subscriber notes from 2014 to 2023, kept as they were written.
If you want the same eyes on your estate rather than the market, that is Project Maat, a day walking stores, or a briefing.
Reading the shelf at scale
The weekly writing comes from walking stores and photographing them. That same photography, seventeen years of it, feeds Kanops, which turns supermarket shelf photographs into structured answers: share of shelf, new products, shelf prices and what changed, across more than 100 retailers worldwide. Grocery Insight is the human read of the market. Kanops is the same read at scale.
